Madden began his first business at age nine, mowing lawns. After a two-year stint in the Army, Madden pursued an industrial engineering degree at Texas Tech University and accepted a position as an air conditioning representative. Just a few 2 years later, Madden joined Russ Sigler at Air Distributors (later known as Sigler Incorporated) and eventually purchased the West Texas market from Air Distributors. Robert Madden Industries opened in 1979 with two locations, soon expanding into additional markets in Texas including Midland, San Angelo, Austin, San Antonio and Houston. Robert Madden Industries now has 18 locations across the state with plans for additional sites.
