Chevron Earns Top Marks for 17th Consecutive Year in Human Rights Campaign 2022 Corporate Equality Index

Company recognized for commitment to inclusion in annual assessment of LGBTQ+ workplace equality

Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) announced that it has received a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2022 Corporate Equality Index, the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.
Chevron is among 842 major U.S. businesses that received a CEI rating of 100 percent along with the distinction of “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality.” To earn this designation, companies must have non-discrimination policies across their organization, offer equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families, support an inclusive culture and prioritize corporate social responsibility.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the Human Rights Campaign with a top mark for 17 years in a row – an unprecedented feat in our industry,” said Josetta Jones, chief diversity and inclusion officer for Chevron. “As a global company, our business success depends on the innovation fueled by talented people with various perspectives, various life experiences and various backgrounds – enabled by an inclusive environment where everyone’s voice can be heard.”

Chevron has a long-standing legacy of diversity and inclusion in support of its LGBTQ+ workforce. Chevron was the first major U.S. energy company in the oil and gas industry to include sexual orientation and gender identity in our Equal Employment Opportunity policies (1993), the first to offer domestic partner benefits (1998) and offer fully inclusive transgender wellness benefits (2011).

“PRIDE has played a major role in helping Chevron open doors and set new standards and policies for our LGBTQ+ employees and building a stronger, more inclusive workplace,” said Marissa Badenhorst, Chevron vice president of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and executive sponsor of PRIDE, the company’s LGBTQ+ employee network.

“When the Human Rights Campaign Foundation created the Corporate Equality Index 20 years ago, we dreamed that LGBTQ+ workers — from the factory floor to corporate headquarters, in big cities and small towns — could have access to the policies and benefits needed to thrive and live life authentically,” said Jay Brown, Human Rights Campaign Senior Vice President of Programs, Research and Training. “We are proud that the Corporate Equality Index paved the way to that reality for countless LGBTQ+ workers in America and abroad. But there is still more to do, which is why we are raising the bar yet again to create more equitable workplaces and a better tomorrow for LGBTQ+ workers everywhere. Congratulations to Chevron for achieving the title of ‘best places to work for LGBTQ+ equality’ and working to advance inclusion in the workplace.”
