Forbes: Cardinal Health EVP explains how diversity, equity and inclusion can produce chemical reactions that unleash amazing innovations

Our chief strategy officer, Michele Holcomb, spoke with Forbes about the deep connection between diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) and innovation. “My view of innovation was formed early in my career, thinking about chemical reactions,” Holcomb said. “When different molecules bump or crash into each other with just the right amount of energy and just the right orientation, a new molecule is created. Similarly, when people with different backgrounds and experiences come together, there can be an opportunity for misunderstanding or tension. But with just the right energy and orientation, that energy can be channeled into creative tension which—through respectful dialogue and discussion—can bring forward amazing new ideas and innovations. That bringing together of people with different ideas and experiences is an essential part of innovation, and it can truly be accelerated through stronger diversity and inclusion practices.”
