HELPING CUSTOMERS MAKE BETTER BEER — AND IMPROVE SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is at the center of almost everything we do at Danaher and in our Operating Companies. But it doesn’t stop inside our doors. Pall shows customers how filtration technologies can improve their overall process efficiency and reduce their operating expense, supporting more sustainable manufacturing practices. And it gives them a better product!

Using Filtration Systems to Reduce Waste, Energy and Water Consumption

For many manufacturers, one of the most common filtration methods – utilizing Diatomaceous Earth – is inconsistent, challenging to use and maintain. Plus, it requires special handling to avoid operational health risks and disposal can be difficult.

Leveraging a DE-free alternative such as a membrane filtration system eliminates these costs as well as the issues associated with the use of DE filters. And it produces the desired clarity and better product quality every time, in a safe and easy way.

Another way we’re helping customers become more sustainable is through reducing energy consumption. In place of tunnel or flash pasteurization, cold membrane filtration in the beer production process can result in significant reductions in energy consumption and operating expenses.

One significant advantage of cold filtration is the direct installation of the filter upstream of the filling line without a buffer tank. Eliminating the buffer tank avoids a critical recontamination point, minimizing beer losses at production start and filling changes, and reduces carbon dioxide consumption.

Customers who use Pall’s membrane filtration compared to thermal treatment installations see significant savings in water and energy. Our Pall CFS Neo membrane filtration system saves up to 75% water and reduces consumption of thermal energy up to 80% versus flash pasteurizers.

Process Changes Yield Sustainable Results

For customers trying to implement sustainability initiatives in the food and beverage manufacturing process, filtration is a good place to start. Leveraging filtration systems can lead to quantifiable waste and energy usage reduction.

The team at Pall is also proud to share our own sustainability initiatives with our customers. It’s a winning combination to improve the environment, while meeting consumer demand for better business practices.
