During this year’s Chicago Auto Show, Hyundai announced a series of safety focused efforts to help further its commitment to help protect customers and their families, in addition to featuring its recent 2022 product line-up, including the all-new, all-electric IONIQ 5, Tucson Plug-in Hybrid and Santa Cruz vehicles. Plans for a new Safety Test and Investigation Laboratory and local donation to Lurie Children’s Hospital Buckle Up child passenger program were highlighted in the live press conference with executives which can be viewed here.

“Whether we are talking about our advanced safety technology or our bold embrace of electrification, Hyundai is committed to taking care of our passengers and our planet,” said Brian Latouf, chief safety officer, Hyundai Motor North America. “The Chicago Auto Show was the perfect event to help share our recent milestones in safety and electrification.”

Hyundai announced the establishment of a Safety Test and Investigation Laboratory (STIL) at its Michigan-based research and development center, Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI). The new facility will further augment existing safety testing and analysis. A field crash investigation lab, high voltage battery lab, forensics lab, 500m track and a Vehicle Dynamics Area (VDA) pad is scheduled to be operational fall of 2023. The investment is focused on enhancing Hyundai’s safety commitment in identifying vehicle field issues, preventing crashes and keeping passengers safe. The new facility investment totals over $50 million.

Hyundai also announced a $50,000 partnership with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago in support of its Buckle Up Child Passenger Safety Program (CPS). Hyundai’s donation will assist in creating consumer educational events that include car seat safety inspections and free car seat distributions to low-income areas.

Rounding out the Chicago Auto Show’s media day that took place on February 10, 2022, in Chicago, Illinois, Hyundai was one of the most awarded automakers in Consumer Guides’ 2022 Best of Awards® competition earning five Best Buy Awards in product categories. The product recognitions for Palisade, Santa Fe, Kona, Accent and Venue, represent the finest value and attributes in each respective class.
